the nest
the nest
The Nest was an amazing find, about a meter in diameter it stood out and on this trip the resident Osprey was home. Definitely a favourite image of the collection and an incredible experience to see it. Check out "Through My Eyes" video for the drone footage.

attention seeker
attention seeker
The foreground in this image is a real attention seeker. The background is very different... but I found it to be equally as beautiful and interesting. Quite often I shoot like this, picking two very different elements and combing them into an image. In a way it is a challenge for the viewer to get past the foreground to appreciate the beauty beyond.

the waiting game
the waiting game
We arrived at this bay hoping for a spectacular sunset. But the cloud had kicked in and the rocks were sitting in dark shadow. There is a technique I use that I call "The Waiting Game" for these situations. It is a matter of getting your composition set and then waiting for the light to drop. As it drops the sky gets darker and balances out to match the shadow area. For this one I had the added bonus of the last light hitting the distant escarpment.

High note
We spent three days in this area and on my last sunrise shoot I thought we were all done and dusted, when this rainbow appeared. I went into hyper mode as I was expecting the rainbow to fizzle out at any minute. Fifteen minutes later it was still going, we certainly finished on a high note that morning.

green and gold
Green and gold was shot after sunrise, we had gone to Point Ellen for sunrise but it was windy and cloudy. I retreated into the bay and found this little gem of a spot. The foreground jumped out at me and the jetty in the distance added to the image.

exposed
exposed
A trip to Kangaroo Island is not complete without a visit to Remarkable Rocks. This iconic landmark is imposing and memorable.
A lot of times I struggle to photograph these places due to people being present. After walking around in circles, I did get some good shots. But it wasn't until we walked out that the true Remarkable Rocks presented themselves to me. |

grass tree lane
grass tree lane
The grass trees on Kangaroo Island were nothing short of spectacular. There are plenty of them around but to find any worthy of photographing was looking impossible. The main problem was finding them isolated from other trees and clutter. I was over the moon when I found this lane-way of them.
This was an Infrared capture. See the Collections video for more info |

broken layers
Broken Layers was shot at the end of the day, the light was low creating a long exposure and allowing the moving ocean to be recorded as a blur. I totally love this technique as it adds a lot of mood to the image. What really caught my eye with this location was the broken layers of rock that made their way out to the ocean, to me it told the story of time and weathered and beaten this coastline is.

temptation
The bay next to this one had lured and seduced me into it with colorful spectacular rocks. The reality is that you need a lot more than bright orange rocks to make a picture.
After many attempts to make a picture of the bay next door I moved into this one. What attracted me to this composition was the hole in the rock way off in the distance. It is a very small but important part of this image. view and buy

shifting light
A last minute decision to move locations for sunset payed off with this image. I had just shot "The Waiting Game" and predicted that we should move to this location for the last bit of light. I'm so glad we did, in a space of minutes the light shifted through the scene and finally fell on the distant headland. In my head I asked for this to happen, for once someone was listening.
