Winter in New Zealand
Every year I fall in love with New Zealand a little bit more. The scenery here is breathtaking and endless. Of the two NZ workshops that I do, I find this one the most exciting. The flight into Queenstown is the start of the WOW moments, and they just keep coming, with majestic mountains and glacial lakes there is plenty to photograph. Winter brings dramatic light and thus, more opportunities to create images with mood and emotion. There are many hidden gems in each place we shoot. The added adventure is that, with the changing light, you never know which destination will give gold! I have carefully planned the itinerary of this workshop to include maximum time for shooting. I think you will find that the variety of locations will give you plenty of opportunities to explore and expand your photography. I will be working one on one with you, guiding and providing support along the way. At the end of each day, we will retire to fantastic accommodation where you will have the privacy of a single room. Meals are all included and are on par with the scenery. As a photo destination, the South Island of New Zealand is world-class, I do hope you can join me as we tour this amazing country. |

Locations
We will spend six days exploring some of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. The first and last stop on the trip will be Queenstown, South Island. This breathtaking location is surrounded by mountains and sits on the shore of the beautiful crystal clear Lake Wakatipu. We will spend a full day here, as we explore north to Glenorchy and Kinloch. Leaving Queenstown we visit Arrow Town and then head over the Crown Range, plenty of stops along the way before we call into the Old Pub at Cardrona. Wanaka has, "That Tree" and some other locations that are less visited by tourists; I will take you to the "Three Monica's, I'm trying to make these three trees more famous than the Wanaka Tree, as it seems to get all the attention. Leaving Wanaka we will head out through some beautiful country side before we reach Lindis Pass. Lets hope the road is not closed due to snow, as it is spectacular. Lake Ohau is becoming my new favorite spot, we will have plenty of time to explore and photograph the area. Winter Moods, Lake Ohau
During our stay at Mt Cook, we will view Tasman Lake at sunset and sunrise. Our sunset shoot is on top of a ridge that looks down into Tasman Lake. We have a 15-minute uphill walk to reach this spot, but you will be rewarded with the view and a buffet dinner that night, our diet starts the following day :-)
Our sunrise shoot will be on the shores of Tasman Lake. Large chunks of ice break away from Tasman Glacier at the top of the lake, they make their way down and get trapped at the bottom. Hopefully, we will have some to photograph, even if there aren't any, it is a spectacular place. To get there, we have a 20-minute walk, then a scramble down to the lake edge. If you are not up to the last bit, there is an excellent platform that you can shoot from. The images below are from my trip there in 2019, absolutely spectacular. Tasman Lake, Mt Cook
There is a lot more to Tekapo than just "The Church of The Good Shepherd" I will take you out both sides of Lake Tekapo, every year is a bit different, it all depends on the light, and the weather of course, but somehow it never disappoints. We are also in a Dark Sky Reserve, this is perfect for Astro photography, and weather permitting, we will include some night sessions chasing the Milky Way, and the Southern Lights.

Why Such a Small Group
This workshop is unique, in that I only take four participants. I like small groups; I find it is much better when on location, and everyone has room to spread out to get the shot. Everything is more relaxed in a small group, meals, transport, and tuition all benefit from this. And you will definitely receive plenty of personalized tutoring during the workshop. Lake Wanaka
Accommodation and Meals
My preferred accommodation is to use a holiday house, this has a lovely homely feel, and we can relax as a group. I will use this style of accommodation at Queenstown, Wanaka, and Tekapo. At Mt Cook, we stay at The Hermitage Hotel, great rooms with a view and a sensational buffet dinner and breakfast. All meals are included. Lunch and dinner are taken at local cafes or restaurants specially selected for the quality of their food and service. Breakfast is included each day, some will be in-house at our accommodation, and some will be at cafes. Accommodation I have used in the past. Similar houses will be used if these are not available.

TESTIMONIALS
What a fabulous week we had seeing beautiful scenery in the company of lovely people! Thank you for all of your organisation and planning and everything you did to make this week so special. I thoroughly enjoyed your Workshop and have learned so much. Every day was full of highlights and great experiences. The Workshop exceeded my expectations.....I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. - Ann, Australia, 2019 I was amazed at the effort Dean puts into his workshops, he is always there to help, coach and inspire. The workshop size was just right (6) (now reduced to 4.... DC) which enabled each of us to have individual attention from him, tailored to our individual needs and skills. No matter what level we were, Dean was able to provide information, advice to improve our photography skills and images. I was able to approach him with any questions I had. He generously shared his photography techniques, insight and wisdom. This made for an enjoyable experience and a time to learn more and grow as a photographer. He gave regular sessions for critiquing our work. We received valuable feedback on our photography, and how we could improve – with camera settings, composition etc. And to top it all off the accommodation and food was excellent. Fantastic photo opportunities in beautiful places with an amazing instructor. ~ Jane, Geelong VIC It was a sensational trip. I can say with confidence that we all had a great time, learnt a lot from Dean, visited fantastic locations, ate too much and enjoyed each other’s company. I am already urging some friends to go next year. Michael Hains "Our NZ photography trip was outstanding. The scenery was spectacular, the itinerary was full of interest even for a seasoned traveler, the food and accommodation were excellent and Dean's individual tuition made sure that everyone learnt as as much as they wanted."
