The Great Ocean Road
I have been photographing The Great Ocean Road now for over twenty five years. I remember my first trip and being instantly taken by its rugged beauty. Coming from Western Australia, it was very different to anything I had seen before.
The road itself was built by returned WW1 soldiers to pay homage to those who lost their lives in the war, making it not only one of the worlds most scenic coastal drives, but also the world’s longest War Memorial.
From a photographers point of view, there is an endless array of subjects. Icons such as the 12 Apostles never cease to amaze me, the limestone cliffs absorb the light and release incredible yellows and ochres as the sun sets. The road hugs the seaside cliffs and in places the rainforest meets the sea.
But what I really love is the hidden gems, the unusual rock formations, the reefs exposed at low tide that have the most intricate patterns. This is the stuff that inspires me and draws me back year after year to capture its known and hidden beauty.
I hope you enjoy each and every image as much as I have enjoyed capturing them.
